For many South Africans, the biggest barrier to a new home, a new job or a fresh start isn’t the opportunity itself – it’s the cost of getting there.
Moving is one of life’s most significant milestones, but it is also one of its most expensive. Between rental deposits, transfer costs, renovations and the logistics of relocating, the upfront cost of moving can place considerable pressure on household budgets.
Recognising this challenge, South African moving technology platform GoMove has launched Move Now, Pay Later, an interest-free instalment payment option that allows customers to spread the cost of their move over two to six months.
The launch comes as Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) continues to gain momentum across South Africa. Once largely associated with retail purchases, flexible payment solutions are increasingly becoming part of consumers’ everyday financial planning as they look for smarter ways to manage cash flow without incurring interest costs. South Africa’s BNPL market is expected to exceed US$1.1 billion in 2026 as adoption continues to accelerate.
While BNPL has become commonplace for everything from fashion to electronics, GoMove believes moving home deserves the same flexibility.
“Moving is often one of the biggest expenses people face at exactly the same time they’re paying rental deposits, buying furniture, renovating a home or relocating for a new job,” says Johan Hattingh, Co-founder of GoMove.
“Too often we’ve seen customers forced to delay or compromise because of the upfront cost of moving. Move Now, Pay Later is about removing that barrier. It gives people greater financial flexibility while still allowing them to use a professional moving service.”
Unlike traditional moving companies, GoMove has built a technology platform designed around simplifying every stage of the moving journey. Customers can receive an instant quote, customise every aspect of their move, update inventories right up until moving day, communicate with the GoMove team via WhatsApp, and manage their booking through a single digital platform. The company also works with carefully vetted moving partners who operate under the GoMove brand and customer service standards, ensuring a consistent experience from booking through to delivery.
The Move Now, Pay Later functionality integrates directly into the existing booking experience. Customers simply select the payment option during checkout, choose a repayment period between two and six months, and complete the same secure payment process they would when paying by credit card. There is no separate application process through GoMove, and repayments are interest-free through the company’s partnership with Float.
For Hattingh, the availability of this payment option reflects GoMove’s broader philosophy of rethinking an industry that has changed very little over the years.
“We’re not simply trying to move furniture from one address to another. We’re building a better moving experience. That means removing friction wherever we find it – whether that’s making it possible to book a move in under a minute, giving customers complete control over their booking online, or now making professional moving services more financially accessible,” says Hattingh.
Since launching early 2026, GoMove has focused on creating a customer-first experience through technology, transparency and convenience. Customers can choose from a range of payment methods, receive real-time communication, customise packing and wrapping services, and access support seven days a week. The company has also expanded beyond the Western Cape into Gauteng as demand continues to grow.
“People are increasingly expecting the same level of convenience from service businesses that they’ve come to expect from retail, banking and transport,” says Hattingh.
“We believe moving should be no different. If technology can remove complexity, reduce stress and make one of life’s biggest milestones more accessible, then that’s exactly what it should do.”
