Bolt, the leading mobility platform available in more than 45 countries recently awarded three drivers in South Africa with the brand new low-maintenance Suzuki Celerio each. The competition is part of the annual Driver League that rewards and celebrates new and existing drivers on the platform for excellent service provided to passengers.

Similar to the previous editions, the competition ran for eight weeks in which drivers were grouped into different leagues. The overall winners were selected from the leagues, which included female drivers.

Country Manager for Bolt, Takura Malaba, says “This year has been challenging for everyone, and we understand the pressure that our driver partners often endure. From the ailing economy that has affected interest rates to the neverending fuel increases, we are proud to be able to provide three people with a chance to become their own boss and increase their earnings by driving a fully paid-off vehicle which ultimately reduces their monthly running costs significantly.”

Ayanda Mbatha, a Women-Only Category driver, said, “What started as a part-time side hustle turned into a full-time earning opportunity once I was retrenched last year. And so I have not looked back since. I own my schedule and define my prospects as a driver on Bolt. And with the Women-Only Category ride option, I get to meet incredible like-minded female powerhouses earning and owning their lives. It’s an empowering feeling.”

The existing driver, Duran Govender, added that “Joining Bolt has allowed me to be the ideal husband, dad and entrepreneur. I get to pick up my kids from school and run quick errands for my home, all while working towards expanding my earning options. I am so grateful to Bolt for affording me the Suzuki Celerio because I can now finally start my fleet on the app.”

Lastly, Thabo Ndaba, a new Bolt driver, said, “I genuinely wouldn’t have thought that since starting my journey as a driver and using the Bolt app that, I would be collecting the keys to my brand new Celerio today. It’s the start I need to expand my business as I continue to explore the opportunities available through the app and the gig economy as I continue to build a life I am proud of.”

The competition mechanisms included registering on the platform, completing a minimum number of weekly trips, and maintaining a good rating above 4.9. Drivers received an entry in the draw for each week they met their goals. The Driver’s League contest showcases Bolt’s commitment to advancing and easing mobility in South Africa while supporting the economy with extra earning opportunities.
