Mercedes AMG has announced the local sales launch of its new generation E 63 S 4MATIC+, which is powered by a 4.0 litre V8 biturbo engine that delivers a whopping peak power figure of 450 kW. That output ensures that this sonorous powerplant is the most powerful engine to have ever been installed in an E Class.

Besides sounding amazing and delivering heaps of power, this engine is also capable of helping you cut down on your fuel bill, if you can manage to keep your right foot in check that is. Thanks to the AMG Cylinder Management intelligent cylinder shut-off system, Mercedes AMG say that it has been possible to increase the efficiency of the engine significantly. The company also managed to throw some shade at rivals BMW and Audi: The Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, meaning that it achieves a new best value in its class.

It is not just about the output and straightline speed though, since the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system is a completely new development, combining the advantages of various drive configurations in one: torque distribution on the front and rear axles is fully variable for the first time. This ensures optimum traction, whatever the road conditions.

Another feature of the vehicle, highlighted by Mercedes AMG is the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT (Multi Clutch Technology) 9 speed sports transmission. It is combined for the first time with a wet start-up clutch, resulting in more agile response times.

The price of admission and ticket to becoming the envy of the neighbourhood as well as the company parking lot is a mere R1 868 400.
