Red Bull South Africa announced the 2019 class of local social entrepreneurs to go through the week-long Red Bull Amaphiko Academy starting on Saturday 15 June 2019.

The aim of the Red Bull Amaphiko Academy is to offer crucial support to grass-roots social entrepreneurs by providing them with mentorship, coaching and assistance to unlock various business opportunities. Since the first edition in Soweto, in 2014, the Red Bull Amaphiko Academy has spread to São Paulo (2015), Cape Town (2015), Pretoria (2017) and Baltimore (2017), where it continues to empower changemakers committed to social good.

The 14 social entrepreneurs announced, were selected to be part of the Academy based on their work across a range of categories that include; education, environmental, health & wellness, employment and sustainability. The names of the social entrepreneurs are: Nondumiso Sibaya founder of Boombadotmobi , Portia Mavhungu founder of PRG Logical Solutions, Mzo Khonamaxase founder of Cubic 38, Luvo Gugwana founder of Aquaponics, Nkanyiso Madlala founder of Spinetector Suit, Lindokuhle Duma founder of Iziko Stoves, Zinhle Ngidi founder of Igugu Labantu Investments, Mvelo Mpilo founder of Zaio, Xabiso Lombo founder of Guardian Angel, Thulani Bono founder of Finishes Of Nature Global, Diuedonne Allo founder of Global Leading Light Project, Tebogo Bathebeng founder of Montsho Sustainable Project, Mabangiso Mabaso founder of Getreadyskills and Hope Mapheto founder of My Tomorrow Academy.

Taking place from the 15th to the 22nd of June at the KZN Music House and the 1860’S Settlers’ Museum, the Red Bull Amaphiko Academy is an eight-day residential camp that forms the beginning of an 18-month mentorship programme to enable people with social impact initiatives, projects and businesses. It concludes with the Amaphiko Festival, which is open to the public that will be held on Saturday 22nd of June.

This year’s Academy promises to be another ground-breaking experience with exciting and prominent speakers including well known story teller Gcina Mhlophe, Malawian innovator and author William KamKwamba, mountain climber Saray Khumalo and CEO of Wonderbag Sarah Collins and a performance by hip hop artist Nasty C & house DJ, DJ Zinhle at the Amaphiko Festival.
