Dr Tshepo Mokoka has been appointed the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Agency SA (PASA), effective August 1, 2023.
For several years, Dr Mokoka has been an integral part of PASA’s oversight body, the Central Energy Fund (CEF). He has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and deep industry knowledge during his tenure as CEF’s Chief Operating Officer. With a track record of successful projects and initiatives, he is well-equipped to steer the company confidently and competently through this transitional period.
A highly accomplished professional, Dr Mokoka holds a PhD in Economics, an MCom in Economics, and Honours degrees in both Bachelor of Economic Science and Bachelor of Science. Dr Mokoka will take the reins from Dr Phindile Masangane, who has joined the private sector and will temporarily assume the role of Acting CEO. At the same time, the PASA Board completes the recruitment process for the permanent CEO.

Dr Mokoka brings a wealth of experience in strategic entity oversight and stewardship of complex policy and operational processes, gained from his role as a Special Advisor to the Minister of Science and Technology and the Minister of Tourism.
During his tenure in these positions, Dr Mokoka provided expert advice within the Economics Cluster in government, contributing to sectoral and country growth strategies, including those related to the energy sector. His professional expertise in macroeconomic and financial modelling is well-recognised, with several academic articles published in esteemed peer-reviewed journals.
