Openserve has been a trusted connectivity partner for South African businesses and households for decades. As SA’s largest broadband infrastructure provider, Openserve has been at the heart of driving connectivity through an array of connectivity value propositions that enable work and play.
Openserve has introduced new solutions that are aimed at improving the overall broadband experience for South Africans while ensuring that they can access affordable connectivity offerings.
Enhancing speeds: Introducing Openserve Fibre Connect 25Mbps Lite and 50Mbps Lite
To provide customers with more value for their money, Openserve introduced two new speeds as part of its product offering for Openserve Fibre Connect (OFC). Firstly, a new entry-level OFC 25/10Mbps asymmetrical offer (25Mbps Lite) and the re-introduction of an OFC 50/25Mbps offer (50Mbps Lite). A speed line of 25 Mbps can connect up to 10 devices and a speed line of 50 Mbps can accommodate between 25-40 devices allowing users to easily download data and stream video content.
Openserve Office Connect
On 11 April, Openserve launched Openserve Office Connect, a premium business fibre broadband service that caters for the micro, small and medium business markets. This service offers improved contention ratios and enhanced assurance experience, making it a viable one stop solution for migration of copper-based voice to cost effective IP-based solutions.
The OOC product offering includes:
- Fibre broadband access
- Uncapped internet usage
- Free to use Wi-Fi enabled device
- Repair time SLA
OOC is available anywhere within Openserve’s current fibre footprint. OOC is included in the conditional free installation promotion valid until 30 September 2022.
Openserve Web Connect
In October 2021, Openserve launched the Openserve Web Connect (OWC) offering which allows customers to pay less for uncapped fibre and receive speed lines of between 10Mbps per second to 20Mbps from as little as R289 per month. OWC offers affordable connectivity and customers can save on costs as Openserve provides free installation, this incentive is valid until 31 March 2023. Openserve is also offering OWC customers a free one-month fibre experience once their home is connected to the fibre network.
Openserve Prepaid Connect
In April 2022, Openserve also launched the Openserve Prepaid Connect (OPC) offering which allows customers to only pay for connectivity when they need to connect. The OPC bundles are suitable for homes and establishments that do not require constant internet access.
Customers will also be able to order a prepaid access line from their preferred ISP, and the ISP will process the installation order to Openserve. Once the line has been activated, Openserve will notify the ISP, and the end customer can load their bundles. To buy OPC internet-only services, customers will order the prepaid bundles on the Openserve website or via the website of the ISP of their choice. Once the payment has been approved, Openserve will activate the data bundles
Free installation incentive
Openserve aims to get more households and businesses connected, and in October 2020 announced a conditional free installation incentive in which Openserve can get customers connected to its broadband network at no cost. This has now been extended until October 2022.
Extension of 30-day Free Uncapped Internet Promotion
Openserve has extended its 30-day free uncapped internet promotion until 31 October 2022. As part of the promotion, business and residential customers get free 20Mbps fibre installation and activation, free uncapped internet usage for 30 days and a free-to-use Wi-Fi enabled device. To stay connected to the internet after the 30 days promotion, customers can sign up for fibre packages from their preferred Internet Service Provider (ISP).
To check eligibility for the promotion, customers can download the Openserve Connect App to check if they are in an Openserve Fibre coverage area and place an order to have their home connected to the Openserve Fibre Network.
Bringing connectivity to residential estates and developments
Openserve has partnered with Homeowner’s Associations (HOAs) and residential developments to bring connectivity to residents. Openserve provides fibre infrastructure to HOAs at no cost. Once Openserve has connected the community or development to its fibre network, residents can choose any ISP to connect to the internet on the Openserve network.
Equiano
Openserve has teamed up with Google as a landing partner in South Africa for the Equiano undersea cable. Openserve will be providing its cable station facility at Melkbosstrand as the SA landing station. It will also offer terrestrial services connecting the cable landing to South African carrier-neutral data centres.
Equiano will run from western Europe, along the west coast of Africa to South Africa. This private undersea cable will be the first submarine cable to incorporate optical switching at the fibre-pair level compared to the traditional approach of wavelength-level switching. Through this partnership, Openserve will enable Google to provide high bandwidth capability to Equiano fibre-pair owners and expected lower latency to Southern European destinations.
Openserve continues to be a driver of connectivity in South Africa through its cost-effective and innovative value propositions. Whether it is speed line enhancements or connectivity packages, Openserve remains the most reliable connectivity partner.
