Salesforce has just released its 7th Edition State of Service Report, which reveals a customer service landscape that is fundamentally changing due to rapid adoption of AI agents.
Based on a global survey of 6,500 service professionals – including South Africa, the data finds that AI has vaulted to the #2 priority for service leaders (up from #10 in just a year). Not only this, AI is expected to handle 50% of all customer service cases by 2027 – sharply up from the 30% already being handled by AI today.
This isn’t just a hypothetical shift; it’s a structural change in how businesses operate.
Key findings from South Africa include:
- Service representatives using AI spend 20% less time on routine cases, freeing them up for more complex, creative, and strategic work.
- Service professionals project AI agents will drive significant business value, including a 20% decrease in service costs and a 40% increase in customer satisfaction scores , alongside a 20% lift in upsell revenue.
- 82% of reps who use AI agents feel positive about their career prospects.
- 83% of reps say AI makes them more productive.
