Today more than ever it is important that while we go on about our business to find a balance so that we’re all still in tune with the real world, our impact on it and all the societal challenges that are happening. This is why HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones supports initiatives such as Earth Hour and considers this movement imperative.
Earth hour is held annually with the aim of encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm on the 30th of March, and connect back to the earth and nature as a symbol of commitment to the planet.
When you come to think of it, is switching off your lights and television for an hour such a bad idea? We tend to complain about not having enough hours in a day, so perhaps taking time off from all your electronics, even if it’s just an hour, could be highly fulfilling.
And if you’re worried about missing out, your phone can easily catch you up when you switch on again. With the Nokia 5.1 which runs on Android 9 Pie, App Actions predict what you’re about to do and keeps record of what you were doing before switching off, so that you get to your next task much quicker. If you do something like connect your headphones, the playlist you were listening to earlier is front and centre.
So, going offline for an hour shouldn’t be a stress factor, but rather an opportunity for you to reconnect in a different way, here are some thing you could do with that extra hour:
Take a much-needed, well-deserved nap
Never underestimate the power of a good nap, if your energy levels are low during the day, a nap can get you right back up giving you more energy to go about your day.
Enjoy one hour of uninterrupted time with your spouse or significant other
Spending time with our loved ones can easily be taken for granted, especially if you live under one roof, you tend to think that you see them enough but with no real interaction, take this time to connect and catch up with your favourite people.
Clean up the clutter
That shoe closet you’ve been meaning to clean up isn’t going to magically reorganise itself so why not take this time to declutter and perhaps consider giving away those shoes in boxes you still haven’t worn and probably won’t wear to someone who’s in need of them.
If you absolutely cannot part with your device there are also a few ways to tap back into nature either way:
Embrace your inner photographer
To really connect to nature why not use this time to appreciate the great outdoors and document the process, with the Nokia 5.1 Plus 13 MP main camera and 8 MP front camera. Switch between aspect ratios and shooting functions, as well as adjust parameters within different camera modes to capture all the splendour of the night, such as the moon or other night creatures. Get creative, have fun with the shadows and share your photographs with us @NokiamobileZA.
Plug into Mindfulness
Soak up the outdoors by creating a star lit meditation session with your friends. There are many great mindfulness apps available on Android such as Calm which helps with meditation, sleep and interesting masterclasses on mindfulness or Headspace which contains life-changing skills on relaxation while to tap back into the earth’s natural energy.
With the Nokia 5.1 Plus which runs on Android 9 Pie, you don’t have to stress about your battery draining out as the adaptive battery function learns how you like to use your phone, so the apps and services you don’t use as much aren’t a battery drain.
Whatever you choose to do during your Earth Hour, whether it’s reading a book, catching up on the socials with your phone, it is all for the benefit of yourself and of the planet, try it and see what a difference contributing an hour can make to your day.
