We commend and support the decisive and deliberate action taken by President Cyril Ramaphosa to activate a national lockdown from 26 March to 16 April to protect the wellbeing of South Africans against the Covid-19 pandemic.

At Dimension Data, the wellbeing of our people, their families and our clients is our most important priority. We are committed to supporting our employees by providing the appropriate technology tools to enable remote working and collaboration, and we will continue to support our employees and their immediate families by providing access to an employee assistance programme.

We are enabling all our clients to continue operating their businesses. We have completed an assessment of clients who have been identified as essential services and have put processes and procedures in place to properly support their needs at this time. We will continue to do our best to deliver services to all our clients throughout the 21-day lockdown.

We believe that the economic stimulus package announced by President Ramaphosa will help in alleviating what is likely to be a significant economic impact of this pandemic. As important, is the president’s call to South Africans who can continue to work from home.

The ability to work, and to continue to work, from home relies on the technology and systems we have in place. South Africa is well positioned in terms of the availability of support around network infrastructure, data and system security and the ability to provide enterprise level solutions for those working from home. South Africa’s technology readiness is supported by key factors, including access to the internet, digital economy infrastructure, mobile penetration and adoption, e-government and cyber security preparedness.

Confidence is fundamental to business success, especially in difficult times. By our very nature, South Africans are resilient “can do” people, and we will undoubtedly emerge successful, having adapted to the “new normal” way of working and collaborating, and believe we have the technical infrastructure in place to support this.
