We caught up with a special member of the adidas soccer family, Aubrey Modiba to share a few personal insights, and since Black Friday is around the corner… to find out what adidas products are on his wishlist.
Aubrey is a huge Nemeziz fan! “They’re so comfortable and light,” he says. “Comfort plays an important part in helping athletes perform at their best. I especially like Nemeziz boots because there are options for different pitch conditions.”
When it comes to soccer-inspired training gear, the Predator range featuring prominently. And although Aubrey’s casual style incorporates many adidas athleisure pieces, he likes to mix it up with surprising items. His advice in this regard? “Experiment. Be unique. Go with what you know suits you, irrespective of what other people think and what the current style is.”
That’s interesting advice from the softly-spoken self-described ‘shy guy’ who admits that the game face he adopts for media doesn’t come naturally.
Something else that fans may not know about Aubrey is that he talks to his mom before and after every game. He says she’s his biggest motivator and number one fan.
Taking the lead from his mother, Aubrey likes to motivate young people. The legacy he’d like to leave talks more about the man than the player. “I would like people to remember me as someone who made things happen for young people who don’t have the resources to get where they want to be in life. Not just in soccer but in all fields.” He and other players with the same ambitions work via the Aubrey Modiba Foundation to help get children living in vulnerable conditions onto a path that will give them a sustainable future.
He says he’s lucky, as he knew he wanted to be a professional footballer from the moment he could kick a ball. The defining moments were when he signed his first professional contract at age 19, and later when he scored his first PSL goal.
